Hi all

Iv'e been having a lot of problems with Capture three lately.

Keep getting error messages and program shuts down, it happens when doing various tasks like dragging files from Nikon View, editing images, batch processing NEFS to Tiff, renaming and other tasks.

This is a big problem as when the error occurs I loss some images, they are ther but Capture wont open them again and when I try to open them in PS I get a blank image the phisical size of the one deleted size but showing 0 bites.

Another strange thing capture is up to is when I do a batch rename, or any sort of batch procces, cature seems to be grabbing images at random, this is ok if its just a convert to tiff, but Its really bad if I'm trying to rename as the random files it grabs are renamed, 1,2,3,4,etc.

Has anyone out there had any similar probs, I've tried contacting Nikon support but they take up to 4 days to reply and I really need to use the program now.

Now I don't know if it's a coincidence, but these problems I think have started or at least multiplied since I started mucking around with custom curves loaded to camera, even hough this is done with another program could this be possible?

Thank you in advance

Try reinstalling the software. It could be a file that's messed up.

Yeh tried reinstalling but to no avail, just keeps crashing. theres no obvious point where it crashes just random. Today I was batch processin 119 nefs, I was watching occasionally to see if it would go down, it was going ok untill#117 and see ya later, what a pain in the bum.
Thanks for the suggestion

I've had problems doing batch processing in NC3 also, shuts down after anywhere from 7 to 70 images. I'm hoping NC3.5 will take care of this!

Frustraiting isn't it Dennis. Do you any idea why it does it?
Did yours allways do It?
Does yours rename at random?

I'd like a fix now not wait for 3.5. Could this problem be the opperating system?
I'm using windows 2000K pro and have found it to be pretty stable

You can try to rescue the images with photorescue. And, you should always copy your NEFS to your harddisk first pryor to converting them: then the files on the Flashcard are safe and the batch will go faster without the USB delay. Might be the cause of your problems.
Good luck

Did yours allways do It?
Very frustrating. Not sure why it does it and the strange thing is that a couple of times it went through all 600-700 images, but most all the time it shuts down on me. I called Nikon about it but got nowhere. Bibble will go all through the images but NC3 does a better job on my D100's nef's, whereas Bibble does a better job on my D1X nef's.
Does yours rename at random?
No, I haven't seen that problem yet (knock on wood).
I'd like a fix now not wait for 3.5. Could this problem be the
opperating system?
I'm using windows 2000K pro and have found it to be pretty stable
I have a tri-boot system (98, 2000, XP) and it stalls on all three. We may have to wait for v.3.5, I've installed the patch that's available but it didn't help.
Good luck, Dennis D

Thanks dennis, and I'm not sure where youre comming from bart but thanks anyway.

I've been running v3 under W2k for about a month now. I've not experience any issues so far. I am using a D1X NEF format. I don't do a lot of processing of the NEFs, mostly if I need to tweak the WB and create TIF's to process with in PS.

Are you doing a lot of image tweaking as your batch process?

Hi guys, yes I do all sorts of tweaks in NC3, although sometimes I just do tiff conversions. Ive had some luck over at Nikonians, theres a guy there who has been experiencing crashes since he stated using custom curves, this is a real worry as I really like some of the curves around the place.
Anyone else experiencing crashes when using custom camera curves?
Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure if Jim is or not, but all I use NC3 for is to convert
NEF's to TIFF's and nothing else.

Funny you should say that, I started using a custom curve the same day I received the camera. Have you tried processing in NC3 with files that don't have a custom curve associated to them?

Ah I'm beginning to see the light.

Before I started using the CC, I was processing NEFS with NIkons curves.

I'm going to have to uninstall again and try some non custom NEFS and see what happens.

Funny thing is, a lot of other people are using these curves and the majority have no probs.

I'll let you now what happens

Looks like we may be on to something here, I going to test this out by turning off the "custom tone curves" and set it to a normal camera tone setting to see if NC3 will complete all my images without a shutdown.
Thanks for your input.
