I had the same concern about no AF-On button. I use it almost exclusively on the D300 and D700. I was hoping that the AE-L/AF-L could be configured that wasy and you've given me confidence it can. Thanks.

As with the D80/D90, I expect you'll be able to assign AF-ON to the AE-L/AF-L button. So unless you need both at the same time, it will have an AF-ON button for all practical purposes.
