I would suggest for both locations the same

Rent a bicycle and cruise around the city at your own leisure with a map.

You will come across all the must-see landmarks, but you will also see everyhting inbetween at a pace that allows to stop and take pictures of all the quirky little things that the travel guides don't mention.

Sure, I would photograph the Eiffel Tower too when I am there, but really what is the point : it has been photographed over and over and over and over and those pictures were done with perfect light. You are not going to repeat that, are you?

I think the true soul of any city is in the little things.

I don't have a Paris gallery online (haven't been there in a few years, except once for a meeting and then all I saw was the Gare Du Nord.

But I have a (quite extenisve) Berlin photo gallery and I hope it brings across what I am saying (it has the landmarks as a way of establiishing where we are, but the main focus is on other stuff) :

In that same group of my web pages, I have a similar approach to London, Amsterdam, Istanbul etc.

I am going to Paris for 5 days and then to berlin for 5 days. In Paris we will be staying near the Eiffel Tower (out the hotel window) and in Berlin we will be staying near Checkpoint Charlie.

I am taking my E-3, 50mm, 12-60, 50-200 FL50R and tripod. What do I have to shoot (must sees) before I leave? I have my own ideas and places to see, but I want some input from the locals.
