New X100 looks good

Soooooo close, but...

I will start by saying that this looks to be a great product, which reminds me of the fixed-lens rangefinders of the 1960's and early 1970's. It leads to two questions, though:

1. Why is it always a 35-40mm lens (incl. those aforementioned rangefinders)? Am I the only person who pines for a fast 50mm equ.?

2. I have to admit I was bummed out when I saw fixed lens - just sit and imagine for a second that optical viewfinder with framelines and compact autofocus primes and a kit zoom for the mass market. Heck, it could even be an evf up in that corner. That would be a true dream camera - I suppose a Contax G for the digital era......
