Re: Nikon D90 or Canon EOS 50D?

The Canon 50D is a higher end camera than the D90, better construction, and includes AF microfocus adjustment. Contrary to what your clueless friend says, ithe D50 works fine with a 18-55mm lens, and every EF and EF-S lens that Canon has made.

The Nikon D90 is a very good and popular camera, and, unlike the lower models, works with a wide range of Nikon lenses.

Either camera would be excellent, however, the Nikon D7000 just announced to replace the D90 looks to be a huge step forward, so, unless the D90 is cheap, I'd wait and get a D7000 as a Nikon choice.

No need to wait for the Canon D60, its a step down from the D50, and missing a very important feature that the D50 has, and that is the ability to fine tune the autofocus to accomodate minor differences in lenses. It can mean much sharper images. The D7000 will add this feature, the D90 does not have it.
