From the corner, manually focus on the hoop or the foul line, and shoot when they go there....you'll get plenty of opportunities and a higher percentage of winners.

Here's a shot from my days shooting Big-10 hoops shot with the 85/1.8 @ F2 on Nikon F (ISO 2000)...the hoop is just off camera to the left...
