Good subject for B&W. In B&W images, highlight areas tug the eyes very strongly. Here, the subject is the face and the very light background items (tree branches, etc., especially in the first image) are not important. For a stronger, more focused effect, you should burn the background highlights right down, and dodge the face (and add contrast). You don't want unimportant highlights distracting viewers from focusing fully on the face.
