Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens or Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM Lens

I just sold my Canon 50D with its Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM kit lens

I had bought the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens to compliment my 17-85 on the 50D

I purchased the Cannon 7D body from a shop I frequently visit and definitely wanted to buy the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens to use as my every day lens. I know the shop owner since a long time and he offered me to sell me the Canon 17-55 and the 70-300 DO as a package with a 40% discount. I do like the compact build of the 70-300 DO and have used my 70-300 non DO and was slightly disappointed with its rough jolting AF motor and wobbly build quality.

I started to look up reviews on both lenses and the more I read the more confused I get on which is the better lens of them both 70-300 or the 70-300 DO.

From the build, handling and the AF motor the DO seems to be better but I read on many reviews that there seems to be some problems with its optics.

My problem is, I will have to sell one of the two 70-300s and even if I sell the DO, I will still be able to make a profit on it due to the large discount I got.

My questions are. Is the optics problem with Canons 70-300 DO so bad that it makes the better quality build and AF motor useless?
Is the non DO 70-300 so much better to keep it?

Which one should I sell and which I should keep the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM or the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM Lens?

It would be nice to hear from someone who has used both and can help me make the right choice.

Cheers,

DB
