Some are confusing -- some aren't

I can share my experience, which is limited.

Photoshop is a different mindset, but very powerful when you get the gist of it.

Aperture is very intuitive. Move little sliders to adjust pictures, and move them in any order. Lots of tutorials online at apple. This is the one I like.

FastStone for PCs, is free, easy, very useable, but very limited.

Nikon NX2, easy to understand, a little clumsy to use, powerful.

Lightroom, very good also. I don't have it, so can't advise.

Don't expect to be up to speed on digital in the first couple of months. You didn't become an expert on film that fast, so don't expect it on digital.

Best bet is to find someone local with one of these programs and let them give you a demo on how it works. Once you see someone use these software packages, your own understanding will be much better.
