The 24-120 is just 230 grams less.
Not much of a tradeoff. Your choice, though.

Nearly twice as much range in a lighter package. Sounds tempting. I tend to shoot events stopped down a little so that i don't leave anyone out of focus. For individual portraits or if I want better subject isolation I tend to switch to fast primes such as Sigma 24mm f1.8, Nikon 50mm f1.2 or (my favourite for portraits) a Nikon 105mm f2 DC. I own a 28~70mm f2.8 AFS and I'm beginnning to think it will become redundant. It's a beast, and it lacks the length I'd like for portraits and candids. The same would be true of the 24~70mm f2.8.
