The review is based purely on the specs, as they didn't handle either camera.

I also think the Panasonic looks better. Looks more like a real camera. Still awaiting the P7000! It's one of those for me for sure!

As the owner of a canon 40D, G10

and happy owner of the S90, I have no issue with the edge going to the LX machines, as IQ is pretty much on par, each side can nit pick all they want, but the two are so close, if you can't get an outstanidng shot with one, you are only kidding yourself that you can with the other!

In my view and yes I know Im the only one who matters, least in my little world!

It comes down to simply what is most important.

As an Dslr and G10 owner I want good quality small enough to always have with me, without needing to think, where am I going to put, carry the camera. Also I use a Pol filter much of the time for landscaps, it's to me BIG that I can leave on the S90 and NOT have it make the camera any larger! Thats BIG.

The LX3, 5 wonderful 24mm, wide, counts for a lot! Slightly faster lens, nice but not a biggy.

The fact that to use a Pol filter one needs to attach a tube about two inchs long, same as I need to do with my G10, doing so turns a barely pocketable camera into one you need to put around your neck or always have in hand AND not so easy to hide.

Both are great, in my case if I did not own a 40D and G10, I might have gone for it, but with the other two cameras I own the S90 is the perfect machine.

Not only looks better, but more importantly has a grip making it easier to handled

And yes, that P7000 is going to be amazing...I sure hope for Canon's sake they still have some type of surprise for the the G12, otherwise onward and upward to the G13 then as Nikon will be taking all their G12 customers.

Totally out of curiosity, why is the p7000 is going to be so good? I've seen the specs but the lens is 2.8 vs. 2.0. The specs make it out to be exactly like the S95, but with a bit longer zoom. I'm genuinely curious as I might have to replace my S90 soon (dust in the lens or sensor after 12000 shots in 7 months, which seems pretty early to have such damage)

Actually, the P7000 has been tagged as the "G12-Killer" :D

Comparable specs, but with a much longer zoom.

Unfortunately, still not the wide angle lens like the LX5 which I would prefer wide angle over more zoom any day.

Yeah! :D That's the ticket - the touchstone standard - how camera looks - that it looks "like a real camera"- then others will see it and know that you're a "real photographer." "Kuhl!"! :D So much easier to choose a camera by comparing pictures of cameras - and just buy the coolest looking one. No need think about it - just one look says it all. Brilliant! ;D Who wants a wimpy s* that slips into you shirt pocket, where none can see it and know that you're too cool for school? :| Wow! Man, Thanks for sharing your coolness with us. Keep-on keepin'-on bringin' your precious prescience. You know about a new camera when only a few have even see and handled it and none have reviewed and the Nikon before it's announced. Really far-out stuff! :D You're for sure the go-to guys here. Totally awesome insights! Really ;)

No different than having a jeans or cargo pants camera! Or in your case a shirt pocket camera! Personally I like my camera to look good. Sorry that bothers you so much. Hope you don't lose sleep over it! Good day!

:D Too much, man! Really, A killer kamera too. And, like you prefer it all 'longer' and 'wider' any day. ;)

Hey, you might not be the 'King of the Snapshootters', but I bet that to Snappers you must be a King?

Well, as I found with the S90, if you cannot comfortably hold it, what good is it? :D

Yeah, remember, doesn't matter if you cannot hold it because there is no grip or if the settings change on their own due to lose dials, as long as it "fits into my jean pockets", heck that is all I really care about. :D :D :D

I'm baffled by this whole grip issue. It is a tiny camera. The whole camera is a grip. My cellphone has no grip (gasp), and I'm still able to hold onto it, and I hold my cellphone up for much longer periods of time than a camera. The last glass of milk I drank had....wait for it.....NO GRIP!!! And yet I didn't spill a drop. The act of raising a slippery glass cylinder to your mouth and, with one hand no less, tipping out (sometimes burning hot) liquid seems like a much more delicate procedure than holding a small rectangle of metal out at arms length and pressing a button.

I see that a huge portion of your posts are in the panasonic forum, singing the praises of the LX-3/5 and in the Canon forum putting down the s-90/95, G-12. So while I'm sure that you think your small pulpit is going to influence sales of these cameras, it won't. Let the big boys figure out what is good and bad on our own, we can do it.

I have no dog in this fight, I prefer taking pictures to obsessing over hardware, but every once in a while, the record player gets stuck and needs a bump to stop repeating the same part of the song.

Thats what makes it nice. Everyone has different thoughts! As the way it should be. Some care for the grip..some don't. I personally like the way the camera looks...some don't! Some people care about how many megapixels a camera has...some don't. Its not a competition here! Everyone has different thoughts! Lately when anyone makes a comment in here you get eaten alive. It's safer in the Nikon and Panasonic forums IMO...

It isn't any time any one makes a comment, it is when the same person makes the same comment over and over and over again.

Yeah, ironically, I read through the Panasonic forum one day and there was a heck of a lot less hostility (that day at least) towards people who suggested an s90 had some advantages over and LX3 or LX5.

Seriously, after being in the Canon forum for a while, I was shocked - shocked - to find that people would suggest that a Canon camera had an advantage over a certain other Panasonic camera and the response was..."yeah".

I think the kind of people who really enjoy the conflict couldn't find enough conflict in the Panasonic forum and moved over to the Canon forum where constantly saying the LX5 is better gets a lot more responses than saying the opposite with the lx5.

Ok..maybe, however is it any reason to show hostility??? Yes hostility has happened in here. And so what if the same person makes the same comment over and over! its a forum. No reason to get angry.

Good day!

Unlike most on here, I believe in getting input from a variety of forums which is why you will see me on a number of them including the Canon, Panasonic, Nikon, News Discussion, and Micro Four Thirds Talk forums.
