Re: Auto/manual with 45-200mm

I think the answer is "I do" I'm married to it!.

In practice I combine AF with manual. focus. I always have the menu focus mode set to Auto+Manual and single point AF on my G1.

With the camera rotary switch set to AF allows me to half press the the release button which AF's the lens and then, the slightest movement of the focus ring brings up a magnified image automatically, allowing fine manual focus.

This is particularly effective with the very narrow depth of field of the 45-200mm lens. By the way I think the 45-200mm is a great lens for the price and people would get better results if the were more careful with focus. I also feel that its so much easier to use MF eye level via an EVF unless the camera is on a tripod. I must admit that I was brought up on manual focus at eye level!
