If you think the Canon 24-105 is a great, super sharp lens, then you're good to go with pretty much anything either brand comes out with.

Truth is, the Canon 24-105 isn't that awesome to those of us with very high quality standards. It's certainly good, but nowhere near the top quality of the best glass out there. If I were a Canon shooter I personally would not own it, which tells you what I think about it, but that's just me - I'd much rather have their 100mm L lens and for sure their new 70-200/2.8 L series II - those are truly sweet lenses, much better than the 24-105 in their lineup. (Or their 17 tilt shift, which is also really nice)

Whether Nikons new 24-120 is going to be much better than the Canon 24-105 I'm not sure yet - haven't seen enough from the 24-120 yet to tell, but what I have seen from the 24-120 leans me to be very confident that the 24-70 will be the superior lens, just as the 24-70 Nikkor is superior to the Canon 24-105. Time will tell...
