Maybe it does macro like their previous version?

No it doesn't, minimum focus is 1.4m, same as the Nikkor.

The previous non OS, HSM Macro (well, closer focussing! ;)) version is 1m, is still available and sells for around £650 (incl. 17.5% tax) in the UK.

Other than that, I don't see a single on of these selling for MSRP.

Currently about £1200 pre-order price (incl. 17.5% tax) in the UK, the Nikkor VRII is around £1600. I think the new design with the fancily named FLD glass is a (hopeful ;)) marketing strategy for bigger increases?

Makes one wonder what the rumoured 100-300mm f4.0 EX OS HSM will cost!

The Bigma 50-500 price increased from around £1000 to the current £1190 average, which isn't the same level of increase, but it doesn't have any FLD glass.

It appears that Sigma are changing the designs and upping the specifications of these next generation OS lenses with fairly hefty price increases especially with FLD elements. I wonder how long the higher prices will hold? I suspect that the prices will drop fairly quickly to a level of market acceptance.
