Using zoom lens like prime lens - any tips for the Finepix S1800?

Hello

I own a Fujifilm Finepix S1800, and allways wondered: is there an easy way to put the zoom lens in the the position equivalent to the 50mm (prime lens)?

Yesterday I got an email pointing this as a tip to great pictures, and it got back to me. http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/top-10-tips-on-how-to-take-a-great-photo/

The hard way is to use the zoom indicator and making several shots, noting where in the zoom indicator bar is the zoom mark, and downloading the photos to the computer, and lookin in the EXIF. Before trying that, I was wondering if there is some meaning in the marks we see in the zoom indicator. Does someone knows about that?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the bad english
