Once again, these are 2 TOTALLY different camera designs.

The Sony TX7 has a 4x Carl Zeiss lens.
The Canon SX210 IS has a 14x lens.

As someone above just said, a 4x lens has to work far less than a 14x one does and is in that "sweet spot" regarding lens performance.

It isn't even close.

Agree, but my impression is first that whoever raized the topic is looking for a good minimum maintanance camera, which he/she does not need to tweak too much. My requirements to a camera is similar - I expect to put auto mode on and get great pictures, Canon 870is delivers just that and superbly. On the opposite, although Canon 210is is a P&S it clearly is not a good substitute for 870is, say, as you need to tweak advanced settings to actually get anything plausible out of it. After all who cares about all this zoom if the pictures are blurry anyway.

I would rather crop the one which is zoomed 4 times and enlarge it - will give same effect. And in my experiments even not too distant objects were still blurry.
