Low cost features that Pentax should implement

A few ideas:

  • Dual support for AA and Li-ion packs in all DSLR's. Ship low-end DSLR with disposable Lithium AA, high-end DSLR with Li-ion + charger.

  • XLR connector ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XLR_connector )

  • 90 degree tilt for the built-in flash (assuming Panasonic doesn't have this one patented)

Firmware-only features:

  • Full manual video controls

  • Higher FPS using the same hardware (by locking the mirror and AE/AF)

  • Electronic level micro adjust (user calibration)

  • FEL - flash exposure lock, with spot-meter support

  • Zero-noise mode via double exposures. I'm not talking about HDR, but a slightly different technique that provides regular tonality with virtually no noise ( http://www.guillermoluijk.com/article/nonoise/index_en.htm )

  • Highlight Tone Priority - option to avoid overexposure at all cost.

  • Option to disable AF hunting

  • Software based focus limiter

  • Hyperfocal focus mode (mostly useful with wide or slow lenses)

Even without these features I'm likely to switch to Pentax within a year, but these sure would make such a switch easier
