Close-up: Insect Friday Special

Another wonderful job, Ahhua.

I believe you also use a bouncer on your flash, right? I have the same flash as Hector's but without the omnibounce and I always get a shadow on the subject if I try to get in too close. Can you tell from your experienceif the omnibounce reduces or eliminates this problem?

Pieter

Hi, Pieter

Thanks :)

Yes, the bouncer will diffuse and lighten the flash light and also reduce the subject's shadow. Why don't you get one to try? And join us (Antena and I) to show our close-up works. Instead of using the Stofen omnibouncer, you can try the Lumiquest bouncer.

You can click here to see how it works :

I would love to do what you guys do, but where on earth do you find those bugs? And how do you get them to stay long enough for you to take the picture?

Hi Ahhua,

I am also from Singapore. Just wonder where do you get the Stofen omnibouncer or Lumiquest bouncer here? I had tried Alan Photo @ SimLim, but no stock :-(, and how much is it?

Thanks in advance.
Thanks :)

Hi, Pieter

Anywhere in the world, you can find this small creature (Specially in tropical country, Mine in Malaysia and Singapore). If you want somebody to pay attention on your photos, firstly you must take something which is unsual to them (fresh idea) and secondly.....

You must be patient to wait and do slow motion when moving close to them. After you move to the distance you want, normally they will stay there for a long time (Because they know you would not do any harm to them). To deal with them, you must have some basic knowledges about them (Advice: Some are dangerous insects).

Nice shots, ahhua! I like the 1st pic most.

Khaiva,

Try Cathay Photo or Fotoguide at Peninsular Plaza. They should sell the Stofen omnibounce.

Hector

Hi, Khaiva

The better choice is Photoguide in Peninsula Plaza. You must look for Nelson, he will give you the best price (Normally I would bargain with him about the price he give). For Cathay photo, the price will slightly higher but you can bargain with them and can get the price about the same as Photoguide (But I personally feel, it may still slightly slightly higher...but their customer service is good, you can ask a lot of questions. They have the times and good advice).

The Stofen bouncer (designed for Metz 32Z-1) cost around S$26(I can't remember exactly) and Lumiquest (Has dif bouncer for dif application) is less than S$50

Hope these can help you :)

The shop's name should be Foto Guide, not Photoguide.

Hi, KC

Nice to meet you too! I met you two guys but which one is you? Sorry that day did not talk much to you because the dragonfly was waiting/posing for me to take photo. How is your result on that day? I ended up to take a lot of insect (zoo visitor) shots and no time to take other animals (lead actor) (Somebody will ask: What for going to zoo to take insect shots). Other reason is the weather is not so good/dim on that day, I don't like to take with flash, look not natural when the flash light hit on their hairly body.

I have plenty of shots but have no time to upload to web. But I may post some tomorrow.
Hope to see your new pics soon!

The local forum I was talking about is here:
http://forums.clubsnap.org It's very active!

Hi,

I used Photoshop to do all these. I used functions like Layer, Resize, Canvas, Rectangle, text, texture and import image... Hope you can do these also.
Tips: go yahoo 'Search', type 'Photoshop', you will see a lot of tips....
Ha..Ha... :)

The male ladybird's action make me laugh (photo no 3, see below).
Wouldn't you think so?...
What program do you use to make your picture frames and watermarks?

I was the taller guy using the 602 with the B300 and a Nikon SB24 external flash :) Perhaps, we'll meet again one day :) There're a number of other 602 users back home. check this out:
