I purchased the PowerSupport matte screen. No problems since it was first installed. I should say I purchased it because I am not fond of the gloss finish.

Another vote for the power support matte screen protector. It also eliminates a lot fo the fingerprints.

I heard good thing about it ... but I cannot find it in Europe.
Is the matte the antiglare or the crystal clear?

Matte is the antiglare.

I am in the UK and bought an anti glare screen made by Cygnett (www.cygnett.com ) from an Apple approved reseller not Apple themselves, 2 screens for £15. Seems to work alright, does not do away with fingerprints altogether but does make a tremendous difference compared with the bare screen.

I don't know. Do you really want to use your iPad with a big sheet of plastic stuck on the front getting tatty at the edges and looking rubbish? What for. The material these things are made from is incredibly hard and scratch resistant. Especially as if you did get it scratched by something so hard as to actually make a mark, more than likely it would be strong enough to penetrate through your cover. So there's really not point. Use it, enjoy it. Let it wear with time like anything else. It is not an idol to worship, but an everyday tool that has an indefinite life.

Why would I?

Yes you are right up until ... you would see my son (2 years old) playing with it.

Then maybe you will realize that sometimes there is no choice: scratches in few weeks or a piece of plastic on .... or a second ipad for the little kid (or better give one to the mother to use with the kid)!

Is it easy to apply, or do you get a lot of bubbles? I bought a regular screen protector, but gave up on trying to install it because of all the bubbles.

Please yourself. Is it so hard to keep it out of reach from a two year old. Perhaps you shouldn't let him use that diamond glass cutter as a toy and just let him play with the wood and plastic toys like most people do which wont scratch the screen. A bit of baby dribble can be wiped off very easily. :-)

I used to use screen protectors on my iPhones. When I bought my iPad at the Apple store I asked the sales person if he recommended a screen protector. He said no. He said the screen is really tough and won't scratch easily. He showed me the display iPads that are used and handled all day long by customers and wiped by staff every hour or so day after day and said they don't get damaged or scratched. He showed me his iPhone that he carries in his pocket with his keys and they too had not scratched his iPhone screen. Based on what he said I have not purchased a screen for my iPad and have had no problems.

I have seen a lego piece thrown at a ipad ...

Jokes apart, I might go ahead without a protector actually.

What do you use (and is available in europe)??
I've had my iPad for 3 months. I clean the screen at least once a day with a clean microfiber cloth. The screen doesn't show the slightest amount of wear. The review that said they saw surface scratches after a few days must be written by gorillas who have never learned how to clean a lens or pair of eyeglasses.

I display a lot of photographs and video on my iPad and I wouldn't even consider adding another optical layer over the beautiful screen. To me it's like buying very expensive living room furniture and then "protecting" it with ugly plastic covers. Sure the furniture looks better 10 years from now, but it looks like cr@p until then.

I got myselfa sena folio case (because a moron in the apple shop sold one at half price by mistake) ... and I have decided to avoid any plastic foil!

Thanks for your reactions.

There are a few videos on youtube of people testing the screen by trying to scratch it with nails, keys, etc., and it just doesn't get scratched.
