The battery door is only a problem for a couple of people who have posted on here recently . The design has been the same on at least on the last four models and has hardly raised any comment. It is designed as spring-less because it is removable to accommodate a battery grip .

The SD card slot is however unusual and something I experienced and as Sonu said after a couple of insertions it started to behave normally. My immediate thoughts were it was faulty but I think it may have been fitted in the locked position and just needed a bit of pressure to release the locking mechanism

I have used Canon Rebel cameras during many years and I do have the T2i.

I think you should press the memory card in the middle and it will pop up ,I never had any kind of trouble removing the card.

Also to remove the battery just press the battery release lever to the side and the battery should pop out , again I have never had any king of problem with removing the battery.

Hi.

There is a spring inside the battery compartment ,as soon as you slide the battery lever to the side the battery should pop up which indicate there is a spring under the battery.

Sorry guys ,again I will repeat that there is a spring under the battery.

I have my T2i with me right now and as soon as I slide the battery lever to the side the battery will pop up.
Unless you all guys have a defective body.

My Canon 550D's memory card slot also does not push my SDHC card out after I press it. I have only removed my memory card a few times so I don't know if it gets better with use. At the moment I need to press down on it then use my fingernails to pry out the card (not very difficult except maybe with freshly cut nails).

Other than that my camera seems fine...

Im happy to report that the new T2i I had to order to replace the defective one came in today (7/20) and the SD card slot works as it should (push down to pop out).
:)

Just waiting for my battery to charge to try all the other features out

BTW, I tried the guitar pick to help with opening the battery door and that helps a LITTLE but its still very difficult for me to open the door with just my finger and no assistance to pry it open.. This unit is a little better than the last but still bad design on the Batty door by Canon.

Looking forward to posting/shariing some pix w/ my new T2i soon

closin

We were talking about the defective spring for the memory slot in my 1st T2i I received last week, not on the batty door.

There is no spring on the batty door** but there is one UNDER** the battery itself.

I was just saying/suggesting it would have been nice to have a spring loaded door** hunge to assist in ease of opening it compared to how hard it is to do for many right now. I never had a problem removing the battery itself, just a problem opening the darn battery cover/door to be able to access the actual battery. The slider door design leaves much to be desired

Sorry for any confusion

You should not have to pry it or pull it out. It should pop up after pressing down on the memory card top edge (for an SD type card, which the T2i does have)

Other models that use a CF card will not have a spring pop out but instead a lever to remove it, like on the battery removal lever.

Absolutely right. I was weirded out by this when trying out my camera after buying it. But I decided it didn't bother me, and since there's nothing else wrong with my camera, Ididn't bother trying to get it fixed or replaced :D

I just got one for my daughter and sure enough the SD card that I bought along with the camera (a Delkin Pro SDHC 16GB) doesn't want to eject without prying it out. My battery door and release and fine.

Bottom line, it is going back. Even cheap point/shoot cameras don't have this issue as the card worked fine in any other camera I tried it in.

You know, I've only had my T2i for a week and remember the card being tough to get in and out for the first few times. It is fine now however and works with all of my cards flawlessly. I never had to pry the card out though... unless you count my fingernails... 8-}

Tried it several times and occasionally would pop right out, but I have to at least use my nails most of the time to get the card out.

Sorry to hear about that and that I wasnt the only one with this issue. Must be a bad batch. Did you get it from Amazon? I did. The 2nd one I got from B&H was fine.

got a new one today and much better.

Just popping in to say that after removing and reinserting my SD card a few more times, the slot now works as it should. In case anyone's interested :)

As another 550D (T2i) owner:

a) The memory card slot on my 550D was stiff the first time I ejected a card, but has been fine ever since. I guess it's engineered for a long life so is a bit stiff to start with.

b) Don't bite your nails? :-) Modern cameras requires some dexterity to use any of their controls. The battery door is in fact very easy to open.

I'm being curious about where the new 550D is made! Anyone can tell me?

Canon always used to build their DSLR in Japan, but recently, some cameras have been made elsewhere (1000D).
I'm of the one who think that it actually matters ;)
