Rumored 16-50 f/4L IS

http://www.canonrumors.com/ is reporting a rumor of an EF 16-50mm f/4L H-IS. Not sure what the "H" means, but This would be a cool lens. If it's not much bigger than my 17-40L, it could find a way into my bag.

However, what I really want is a 16 or 17 to 50 or 55 EF mount, L grade f/2.8 lens.

Canon Rumors ponders: " With such high ISO performance now and obviously improving in the future, is a wideangle zoom at f/2.8 have much of a point anymore? "

A valid question, and I'm not sure I know the answer. What do you think? f/2.8 is still twice the light as f/4. 1600 on my 5DII is still better than 3200. An EF 17-55/2.8L would replace my 17-40L AND my 24-70L in a heartbeat. Which is why Canon will probably never make such a thing.

Now that I have the 70-200/2.8LIS II, I find myself using that for tight portraits and sports, and reaching for my 17-40L more when the 70-200 comes off. The 24-70 is getting less use, but then again I haven't had the 70-200 for very long. I'm not sure a 16-50/4L could replace my 24-70/2.8L, what do you think?
