I impulsed bought the 35mm macro, was that wise?

Surfing when I should have been working, I saw AdamT's very useful heads up and rushed in and bought the 35mm macro. Justificatio; it was genuinely half the street price and I take a lot of insects and fancied a macro lens instead of relying on the 70-300.

Now I'm home I can make the considered judgement that ss my norm (I don't do impulse buying, even on obvious bargains). I searched out a few samples and while there are many nice pictures available there isn't a lot that I couldn't have achieved with my 70-300.

Can someone tell me that I made the right decision and will see some real benefits over the 70-300. It also seems popular for portraits but that isn't of interest to me.
