And in the 21st Century there is lead in paint and other contaminants in things such as toothpaste and food.

For the most part I agree with you, in that the quality of the manufactured product is determined by the designer/owner not country of origin.

While demonstrating your "open mindedness", don't become naive.
 
Could not care less where stuff is made as long as it works.

I believe high quality stuff can be made anywhere.
Sony of course has quality controls or what it is called.

Made in X or Y don't mean anything for me longer.
Good or bad stuff can be made anywhere these days.
 
Many years ago, when first CDROM drives (later DVD drives) were expensive, SONY produced them in Japan. When they grow cheaper, they produced in Taiwan/China, because it's not senseful to use expensive computerized machines for cheap products. Later they bought them from Chinese manufacturers and wrote "SONY" on it ... and then they gave it up to "produce" cheap drives.
 
Software errors/bugs has nothing to do with "made in X or Y".
I was talking about hardware and hardware quality control.
I am sure software development and control is done in Japan... well I guess so.

BUT HEY! If there is a software bug report it to Sony ASAP and
please ask for full manual exposure control in video mode with the next
firmware update.

Well you may be right in speculating that software development is done in Japan but QC must / should be performed in Thailand ?

you want to hear more what you would call bad news, lots of PCB's are made in Thailand and shipped to Japan to be put into stuff with 'MADE IN JAPAN' on it, you have no idea where all the components in your consumer stuff is made, I'd be very worried if i was you :P

Just to let you know, Nikon dslr are made in Thailand. (not all model)

And Mercedes-Benz choose Thailand to be the first country in Asia to produce thair car.

Any quality differences between Japan & Thailand may not be attributable to differences of culture & industrial development but more associated with the fact that the Thai factory is fairly new.

This was used as the excuse for the mix-up which occurred over the demo models used in the initial launch of the NEX & for the fact that DPR was alleged to have received pre-product on models to review. I have expressed it that way because we have never been told the complete truth over these issues.
