Have the zs7. Posting some representative photos, nothing special but wanted to show some photos from the camera. Wanted a walk around zoom. Not completely happy with my initial test photos. Indoors leave a lot to be desired both with and without flash. Outdoors not bad but varies a bit. I am used to DSLR so this is a bit of a step down. But even compared to some other point and shoots, I find this a bit noisy. Worse if you pixel peep. Well here are a few examples for your perusal. Please feel free to post your examples so we can see what the camera can do.

Ben

base Iso

iso 800

iso 80 flash indoors

300mm iso 80

and wide open 25mm intelligent auto

Thanks for the examples. Anyone else want to contribute or comment on the IQ

Thanks
Ben

I passed my TZ10 to my 5-year son for him to take things that interest him, setting the mode to iA for him. These are a few pics that he got in the short while that he was trying it out:

Knowing the limitations of small sensor, I am happy with the image quality that the iA gives for indoor.

Your five year old is a budding photographer. Amazing composition for such a little one.
I loved looking at these.
Anyone else with some examples from their zs7.

I got the ZS3 right before the ZS5 & 7 came out, and I think the new features on the recent models slightly tax the IQ. It's a fairly subjective opinion though. Newer isn't always better, as can be seen in the Fuji user forum about the HS-10.
Nice trolling. This is a ZS7 thread.

It's a shame. The ZS7 is a very good camera. But I would expect the IQ to be better than the camera it replaces. Panny dropped the ball.

Welcome zs3 users too, though I would like to see more zs7 shots. I have looked at photos from both cameras and I think the zs3 is a bit less noisy but not by a whole bunch. Zs7 has other attributes and seems to perform very well for a point and shoot. Panasonics give great photos but the pixel peeping always shows some pixelation and smearing especially at higher isos. At least that is my opinion. One thing I would love is an immediate way to review and delete without having to dial to play mode and more info on the settings available in playback. Any comment about the 800 iso shot, last one below? Not talking composition here just hi iso example. Struggles a bit but that is normal I guess.

Please post your zs7 shots, or zs3 shots so we can get some ideas of what the camera can do.

Couple more zs7 photos:

Base Iso for the next two

Acutally correction the first two photos I just posted were iso 125, taken with IA setting I believe.

That's along the lines of what I experienced. I had a ZS3 and it was a little less noisy, but not a huge difference. Got the ZS6 TZ9 for the PASM controls, anti-glare screen, EZ zoom button, etc. With these compact, high zoom, high megapixel cameras, you have to be able to accept that pixel-peeping is a losing battle. They're fine for printing or viewing onscreen at "normal sizes." That's why this is my outdoor pocket cam. I usually use the LX3 for indoors or when I know I won't need the zoom.

I haven't had the ZS6 TZ9 very long, so haven't had the chance for much more than the occasional snapshot. But here are a couple, with my usual 15 sec PP adjustments (levels, crop, sharp).

I gave serious consideration to the ZS5 & 7 to replace my ZS3 after reading the specs. The person starting the thread had questions about the quality of the ZS7 photos, and I posted for a comparison. So have others with with the ZS series cameras. Mentioning other brands besides Panasonic is common also, as I think we all want the best camera for the money we spend.

I also use an FZ50, and while I prefer Panasonic cameras for many reasons, there have been questions about the quality of the ZS5 & 7 series not being quite as sharp and a bit nosier than the preceding series. And this has been an issue with some of the newest models of other manufacturers as well. The reason seems to be how many features can you put on a certain size sensor without degrading the quality of the images. This is something I've learned over time in these forums from other users.

Here are some examples from my ZS6, with minor PP tweaking...

Mackey you seem to like bugs and slugs
Cyan, very nice photos. How much PP did you do?

Thanks benthevet. To answer your question, not much. It was mostly cropping and minor shadow and saturation adjustments.

Ben, thanks for your kind comments. It's interesting to find out what interest the kids' mind. The ZS7 Power OIS works very well even for kids holding the camera. Most of what he took turned out sharp enough.

Here are two photos of a dragonfly that flew into my living room last night.

The magnified one was taken with a +4 close-up filter in front of the ZS7, held with an old adaptor used for a faulty Canon A70 years ago. Without the Power OIS, I doubt I can get them in focus.

Interesting shots. Do you have a photo of your set up for this TZ?

Have you been happy with your zs7. I find it is great outdoors and not so bad indoors even at high iso with flash. Just a bit noisy on pixel peeping and some smearing of detail. I have tried different NR settings and intelligent resolution. A bit of NR (NR=0) seems to help on occassion. Though not really visible on small prints or regular viewing. Also the IR really helps in some lower light or high iso in my brief experience.
Anyone else with shots from their tz7?

I just received my ZS3 and one thing that bothers me is what you referred to above for your ZS7. Apparently there's no way to review and zoom photos without using the play mode, unless I'm missing something. That's different from my other Panasonics, including the TZ3 and LX3.

My setup is as shown in the picture below. There is only loose coupling between the adapter and the TZ10. I have to hold it while taking macros.

The picture below shows the adapter and the +4 diopter close-up lens (52mm).

The next picture shows a macro shot of a typical micro-SD card.

Yes, so far I am happy with what it can do. I've a DSLR if I really need low noise indoor shot. But using the DSLR is always not as convenient as the TZ10. I've not tried to see the differences in the various settings. Will probably try what you've suggested.
