Yes - for me the Tamron 28-75 is a very good alternative to the expensive and large Nikon 24-70. The latter no doubt is marginally "better" but that's a whole 'nother thread.

My favorite UWA is the Nikon 10-24. The 24 is important to me as a walk around lens, and I like the 10 on the wide end over the "12" options. Only the Tamron offers such a broad focal range, and the IQ is questionable I've heard. The Tokina 11-16 is amazing but I think I'd find the range limiting for my purposes.
