For the biggest bang for your buck in daylight action sports the choice is the 70-300 without VR. A used one will can had for less than $200 and with the access to the games that you have it will get you everything you need. Image quality at 8X10 will not be a problem.

Spending more will not get any significant incremental improvement under the conditions you described. Shoot it at f8 with a 1/500 in auto ISO and you will be happy with the results and have money left in your pocket that you can use toward the 300 f4 or 2.8 for when the sun goes down and the lights come on in the future.
