Core i7 920 temps

In all my photo editing and gaming, I have yet to see the 920 utilize all cores at 100%, except for stitching images together. When stitching an extremely large pano with Autopano Pro, I finally see the 920 utilize all cores, and all cores are maxed out.

The i7 920 is not OC'd, but temps are reaching 84C (transiently) during stitching (153W), and commonly stay at around 75C during the entire stitching process (perhaps 5-7 minutes if working on a pretty large pano).

How detrimental is this to the chip? It's a stock heat sink, but even my "hot" P4 630 OC'd at 15% never reached 84C.

Are hotter temps normal with multi-core chips? Typical temps are 50-55C when not under load drawing less than 19W power, FYI.
