In flight shots

I've been a Pentax user for almost 4 years now. My interest was in macro and only last year did birding caught my attention. I upgraded my Pentax body to a K20d and purchased a used Tokina 400mm f5.6 lens. This combo was great most of the time but somehow I was not happy with the AF and tracking of BIF.

Since taking on birding, I've been hanging out with some serious photograhers and most of their equipment are Canon, anywhere from the 300mm L lens to the 800mm. With a trip to Orlando for a family reunion, I had planned to vist a few places that are famous for birding.

My goal this year was to get better with my BIF shots, so I decided to buy a used 40D and 400mm f5.6 L lens. I was using for about two weeks before our vacation and had a tough time getting used to the weight. I was getting worried that maybe I made the wrong decision. To remedied the weight issue I bought a 'flight brace' from a friend who makes them. it's like a bush hawk but much cheaper and more user friendly.

AF and tracking are much faster and the lens is awesome. I'm not here to diss Pentax but to give praise to my new toy.

Here are some shots taken with this combo, I just love it.

Cattle Egret

Osprey at Viera Wetlands

Osprey at Gatorland

White Ibis

Thank you for looking. The rest can be seen on my flickr photstream
