So, I got my E-P2 this week and I'm new to lenses in general. Does anyone know where I can get lenses for m4/3 in Canada? Vancouver area?

I assume you are looking for the best prices in Canada. For me, living in Quebec, the best would be The Camera Store in Calgary. I have found that they have the best prices in Canada. You will have to get Panasonic lenses, though, as they stopped selling Olympus. Another would be Vistek, although their prices tend to be list, they occasionally have a 'sale' on the web site.

Any out of province store would only charge GST and you would save the PST. Delivery charges are a lot less than the PST. If you purchase from the US the additional delivery, brokerage and the two taxes brings the price up to the point where it is not that big a saving. Combined with warranty issues, diligently shopping in Canada is probably the best way.

I use bhphoto in New York (I'm in Winnipeg).

I've bought four items from them in the last year. The only specific m4/3 item was an adapter to use my regular 4/3 lenses on my E-P1. I got that about 6 weeks ago. the other items I've ordered have been full sized 4/3 things.

Choose UPS International EXPEDITED shipping. EXPEDITED!

The Expedited shipping includes all brokerage and clearance fees. The only additional charge will be PST and GST. UPS expedited for one lens will likely be in the $26.00 to $30.00 range. You get a tracking number and you'll get your lens in about 3 days.

I guess I'll be going with B&H, I think I've bought something from them once before (I get their catalogue in the mail for some reason). I'll get the Panasonic DMW-MA1 since it's so much cheaper than the Olympus adapter.

Now, I prefer to focus manually (I like the extra control) but if I wanted autofocus with a 4/3 lens, do I need to look for something (contrast AF) specific? How do I know if a lens will do AF with the E-P2?

I'm looking for a zoom lens (probably 150+) that won't break my wallet. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

B&H photo is a great source, bought my e-p1 from them. Any US shipment you get should be expedited, whether UPS or Fedex, because it includes the customs brokerage charge. You still have to pay any provincial sales tax and GST.

The other ok way to get anything shipped is USPS, again no ridiculous brokerage charges. Look at Cameta Camera as well, especially for refurb deals.
I have found some lesser items (ie

I think Ebay is a great source too. I actually bought my 45-200 panasonic second hand from someone in Vancouver through Ebay.

I was going to get the MA1 adapter from B&H, until I saw a Canadian website mostlydigital.ca advertising it for 149.95. I then went to my local Henry's store and had them match the price. Beats ordering from the US, and pay $35 for shipping.

All 4/3 lenses do AF with the Pen cameras. Some better than others.

Your best choice is the 70-300, and it is Pen AF compatible
you're welcome.

Jeff.

My DmW-MA1 from Bhphoto ended up costing me a total of $157.97 with gst, pst and UPS. The UPS International Expedited was $26.01US.

That would still be $10.00 cheaper than buying it for $149 CDN.

Although, the dollar was a bit closer to par at that time so they might be closer to even today.

But it's very, very rare to get a deal in Canada anywhere close to an American price. It can happen...but not often. That's especially true of lenses where the cost of shipping isn't much of an issue.

Lens & Shutter in Vancouver has a good selection of Olympus cameras and lenses. Go to their Broadway location.

As mentioned, the 70-300 will work.

But I would also strongly recommend the 40-150 4/3 kit zoom. It's very small and light. It functions very well on an m4/3 with an adapter. And you can usually find it for $99.00CDN at Best Buy (and other stores).

For $99.00, you can't go wrong.

Thanks again for the help and resources, guys.

I'll be ordering the adapter from B&H since they have it in-stock and for cheaper ($169 at MD) and the 40-150 lens from Lens & Shutter (anybody know what sort of S&H cost I'd be looking at within the province?).

Thanks again, all.
