Why new Canon models use CF instead of SD

The cameras in this forum are using SD cards but when I was looking at the next step up, 7D and 50D, they seem to be using CF instead of SD. Many laptops don't provide for inbuilt CF card reading hence making us carry a reader as an extra item in the bag.

I thought CF has limited storage capacity by design and that SD or SDHC is the next thing in storage cards.

What's your view of CF cards? Why is Canon still churning new cameras using CF?
