Very, very nice! But I am still haunted by the eyes photos and will forever wonder why you cropped such a beautiful image at the nose. It boggles my mind; but then so does the John Hazard choice for DPOTD June grand winner. I like John Hazard's work. It is creative and stimulating, but grand winner?????

There is no doubt your daughter has the most beautiful, expressive, eyes. But why the crop at mid-nose? I would love to see the the face that has launched a photographic career!

Furrukh, three things.

1. Your daughter is a beautiful girl. Knowing how I feel about my own daughter, I appreciate the pride you must feel.

2. Well done for your nomination I've been reading this forum for not too long but already I can see that your contributions and your attitude is what it's all about with respect to digicam photography

3. I love your post! Did Euro 2000 have anything to do with your composition. ;-)

Thanks Jerry. I love your question, since it gives me the opportunity to talk about composition of those images. In the two (cropped at the nose) pictures of my daughter I though the design and composition were better that way. In the duotone “Eyes and Bed Sheet”, in my mind, the weight and balance of the design looked very pleasing. Actually my mind was more focused on the bed sheet and the background, the shapes of these elements, and how these two elements brought balanced and harmony to the composition. Just the forehead and eyes seemed to fit perfectly in the overall design, and balanced the composition, in my mind. In a pure composition like this one it helps me to forget about the subject matter, and only focus on the shapes and forms and how they interact with each other to produce what to my eyes is balanced, peaceful, and pleasing. In the “Eyes and Scarf” I thought that cropping it there produced a clean design, with the focus on the eyes and the beautiful scarf. The intensity of the gaze of the eyes was enhanced this way. Also I thought that it would make the image a bit haunting and mysterious to crop it right at the nose. I wanted a large expanse of deep black space at the top.

Here is a picture of my daughter I posted in an earlier post dealing with an external flash bracket for the Cool Pix cameras (the lighting was by a single external flash):

Thanks ionmac! I appreciate your comments. Actually I am not as actively keeping in touch with photographic events here in USA or in Europe, or reading as many photograph publications as I should be. This image was not motivated by Euro 2000 in particular, but it is certainly influenced by European photography in general. I am strongly influenced by European photography, and visit European art and photography galleries every year. Once a year I go to Berlin, where my (rich) mother in law lives. Mainly, so that she will not forget me ;-), but also to meet my European friends. Many of whom are artists, and we spend a fair amount of time exploring art galleries.

Cheers!

Furrukh -

My original response got lost in cyberspace and may eventually turn up as a duplicate posting - - in essence was a thank you for the comp exlanation and the full image of your daughter. I would say you have been blessed in a number of ways!
