How I fixed my loose focus ring on my F707

What follows is a quick guide to opening up your F707 to get to the focus ring assembly. Of course I assume no responsibility if there are errors or ommisions in these instructions and of course you realize any warranty you might have thought you had will become void once you tamper with the camera screws and open the case.

Here we go.

STEP #1 - Remove the two screws holding the flash shoe in place.

STEP #2 - Remove the two screws holding the flash shoe base in place.

STEP #3 - Remove the three screws holding the case halves together.

STEP #4 - Remove the two screws holding the tripod mount to the camera.

STEP #5 - Remove the half of the casing being very careful not to pull on the ribbon cable. I chose to pull the ribbon cable out of the connector to allow me to put the case to the side.

STEP #6 - Remove the screw on the inside, at the top, near the focus ring.

STEP #7 - Remove the screw on the outside, at the bottom, near the focus ring.

The focus ring assembly is now loose but the CCD/lens assembly needs to be removed to free the ring completely.

STEP #8 - Remove the two screws holding the inside bracket which holds the lens assembly to the lens case.

STEP #9 - Free the focus ring assembly by lifting the CCD/lens assembly just enough that the focus ring can clear the case. Once the focus ring assembly was free, I removed the small ribbon cable from the connector on the focus ring assemby.

STEP #10 - Tighten (but don't over tighten) the three screws holding the plastic structure to the front threaded lens ring. All of these were loose on mine but one was especially loose.

STEP #11 - Put the camera back together following the steps backwards.
