skanter - does Power Director need to be encoded into AVI 1st???

I think Vegas interface and powerful features are great - but having to encode every clip into an AVI before editing ruins the deal for me.

Wow, thanks for that heads up. Having encode everthing into AVI before editing would also ruin it for me. With that being said, vegas is out for me .

Have you tried the new Power Director? Does it also required pre-conversion into AVI? or can I dropped it in like the Pinnacle?

With Pinnacle I just drag MOV files into timeline, view end edit at full resolution, full screen with perfect playback. I'm editing immediately, and seeing the finished edit in real time. That's the way I want to go, without jumping through hoops to edit. Hopefully Vegas will eventually be able to do the same thing. If $100 Pinnacle program can do it, why can't higher-end programs?
