--I ordered a Sony G NP-BG1 from USB phone World. It was $16.95 + $7.95 shipping for a total of $24.70. I don't know if that is a particularly good price with shipping, but it did not seem too bad.
Here is the link.

There is nothing wrong with that.A good example of "caveat emptor". If you look at the picture of the battery it does not say "SONY" while a genuine Sony battery does.. The ad only states that it is FOR Sony cameras.
Unfortunately in these days, even the presence of the word "Sony" on the battery does not guarantee that it's genuine. However, the ABSENCE of the brand name DOES guarantee that it's not.
As the old adage goes: "If it seems to good to be true, it probably isn't!"There is nothing wrong with that.
People will be stupid if they think they are getting genuine
Sony battery if they pay $5 or $10 for it.

No that is not "too good to be true" price. But beware that there are too many "fakes" (may not be bad as many 3rd party batteries now are just as god as original ones) even the sellers genuinely believe they are selling originals when in fact they were sold "fakes".At $24 bucks delivered I did not think it was a "to good to be true" price. Also, it says:
"Get extra clicks from your Digital camera with NP-BG1 Lithium-ion Rechargeable Battery Pack from Sony."
Could that be because you used the 3rd party units more (because of cheaper replacement cost) and kept the brand name ones mainly in reserve? Most 3rd party batteries I've bought have not had as good a life as the originals, including one I bought for my HX5v
He was just referring to 3rd party batteries in general and it it generally true.Could that be because you used the 3rd party units more (because of cheaper replacement cost) and kept the brand name ones mainly in reserve? Most 3rd party batteries I've bought have not had as good a life as the originals, including one I bought for my HX5v
The HX5V has been available only about 1 month. Have you exhausted some cells already? How many charge cycles?
Original BG1 battery supplied with HX5V does not display info. Optional BF1 does. The free battery doesn't display the amount of shots left over but I heard there is an optional battery that does display that info. Anyone know which model battery that is and if there are any knock off companies that have that capability?
I have just purchased a battery from 7dayshop for £4.99 delivered, any good?HX5 uses the very old BG1/BF1 batteries which have been around for many years.
There are plenty of cheap and reliable 3rd party batteries around.
You should not be worried using these unless you are very unlucky to get bad ones, as long as you get it from reputable seller.
