Fire and Ice
Yes, I noticed that it came up pretty quick during the night and it still is showing up well now. It seems to be a grey day, and the smoke and steam are creating a cloudy situation. If yesterday is any example (they say the weather is good over the area today), in about 6 hours or so, the sun will begin to set and as it darkens, you get great color as well as seeing the flames from the volcano. Really quite a site. In the news in Iceland, they say that the lava is flowing fast down the Hrunagil canyon and headed straight for the valley of Thorsmork (a popular hiking and recreational area). They are also talking about creating a name for the new mountain that is rising where the current volcanic eruption is taking place. Seems increadable that we can witness such an event.
Here is an image taken where they say the lava is headed. There are almost no trees in Iceland, and this area is well known for its "birch forest"
