Large Superfine files are typically 7.5-9MB. If you want 'em that big, you'll need to change your setting. What is the typical file size for an E-620 LF jpeg? Mine seem to average around 5 meg which seems a little small.
Check the manual, page 104 under "Set."This is going to seem like a very newbie question, but how do you set it to superfine? I only see the option for Large Fine.
With my E-30, the LF JPEGs vary between about 3 MB and 6 MB depending on the 'complexity' of the subject photographed. The very small ones have large areas of the same colour, for example. The large ones have considerable detail and colour gradation (e.g. a car headlight). What is the typical file size for an E-620 LF jpeg? Mine seem to average around 5 meg which seems a little small.
Same issue here, Greg. This thread reminded me of something I'd noticed and meant to look up on my E-30. I didn't even realize superfine was an option...I just thought I'd picked the best it had to offer. Doh!I am a fairly technically savy, but I have to say that it took me quite awhile to figure this out. Why the #$W would olympus hide the cogs menu by default? And why would they not have super fine as one of the default options.
Now that I have the cogs menu on and have enabled super fine, I think I will be ok. Sometimes I miss the simplicity of my old e-500
Thanks again for your advice.

Join the club ...I am a fairly technically savy, but I have to say that it took me quite awhile to figure this out.
To make it "easier" for people? Who knows? The camera makers all do some very strange things ... Olympus is no exception. Why the #$W would olympus hide the cogs menu by default?
I think that this is to make it hard to change accidentally. The E-620/30 are among the most customisable cameras ever made. Certainly at this sort of price point ...And why would they not have super fine as one of the default options.
My E-1 is the same as your E-500 in that regard. BUT one can still induce a colour cast by the simple misapplication of one menu pick ...Now that I have the cogs menu on and have enabled super fine, I think I will be ok. Sometimes I miss the simplicity of my old e-500![]()
You are more than welcome, mate. Many here have helped all of us, we just try to reciprocate the favour, as and when we can ...Thanks again for your advice.
It makes me feel better...a little. I toyed around with RAW files for awhile but gave up on it. Like you, I noted that Oly jpegs are well regarded, so that was a reason for going this direction in the first place. I've started comparing...at 2x the MP, yeah, definitely an improvement. If it makes you feel better, I shot L-F for about 3 months before figuring out there is a L-SF option! I do not shot raw; it is too much work for me and one of the reasons I got Olympus is its outstanding jpg.
