Any one using this combo? I currently use this lens on a 350d/XT and my two complaints are AF Speed and it being too slow for no flash shots inside. I am hoping I will be able to make the leap to the 7D soon and was wondering how this lens performs on a 7D.

Will it focus faster on the 7D? I know accuracy will be improved but will speed too?

On my 350D I don't like to shoot above ISO 400 becuase the noise is beyond my liking. Will I gain 2 stops on the 7d ISO over the 350d? This would allow me to use a 2.8 zoom instead of having to buy a 1.4 prime.

I have a 7D and am also considering this lens and have the same concerns you mentioned. Hoping someone with this combo can chime in. AF speed/accuracy and good enough for no flash indoors are key.

it's ridiculously sharp and it should focus fine in terms of accurac y on the 7D but the AF is slooowwwwwww, maybe the slowest on any lens I have ever used

This lens is good @ f2.8 and extremely sharp @ f4

f/2.8, 75mm, ISO400, Flash, 7D, AF on right eye

f/4.0, 75mm, ISO400, Flash, 7D, AF on left eye

it works well on my 7D. It also worked well on the 40D before that.

It is sharp but slow focusing. Other than that, it's quite serviceable.

I'm selling it now as i need more reach.

I don't questions the Tammy sharpness, but it sounds like the AF is still really slow even with the advanced AF system on the 7D.

The other question remained unanswered. How much ISO do you gain from the 350D to the 7D at similar noise levels? I have seen comparisons with the 450D and 7D, but not the 350D on the digital picture.

Better but I don't think it would satisfy you. The Tammy won't focus that much faster. Since there are no f2 zooms, you need a fast prime for your indoor flash shots.

Truthfully, the biggest difference you will notice by upgrading from the 350D to the 7D is you won't really need to restrict yourself to ISO 400. Even with fast primes ISO 400 can be quite restrictive in low light.

In some situations you would be better off with a slower zoom with IS. Like with a relatively static subject and when you need more depth of field.

I'm trying to figure out if I need to sell the Tamron when I go to the 7D. Do you think a 17-55IS will do or will I need the extra stopping power of a f1.4 prime (thinking the Sigma 30)?

Sorry if this isn't that helpful but I think you would eventually want both but more so the zoom with IS. For moving subjects you might need the Sigma f1.4 but with the very small DOF at f1.4 this makes for a dicey proposition. You would get more use out of the Canon 17-55 f2.8 IS or the new Tamron 17-50 f2.8 IS to be able to shoot without flash at smaller f-stops for more DOF but then subject movement becomes the problem. Any of these three lenses would be more useful than the Tamron 28-75mm lens without IS under indoor low light conditions.

i have this combo and the lens hunts on the 7d, but didn't on the 20d. not sure if this is just me or not, but it seems that it can't focus in small enough increments.
