Flat and Washed Out Antarctica Pictures

My pictures in Antarctica of ice bergs and mountain scapes are flat and washed out. All my other pictures taken away from direction the ice bergs and mountain scapes are perfect (that is, camera pointed inward toward the ship and not out toward the ocean).

Took pictures in RAW format with the Canon 50D.

Camera setting had exposure for evaluative and looked good on the camera LCD when previewing them.

ISO was 100 and used Aperture Priority (shutter speed varied from 250 to 2000).

Used Photoshop CS4 raw editor to try and and bring back photos to way they should look like.

Photos are dull and rather dark. If I try and use exposure control to lighten them up, they appear almost fully washed out. Bumped upcontrast, but stil do not look good.

Real world brightness and contrast are much greater than what the photos indicate.

What do you suggest on how to fix them?

(Don't know how to attach or hoe to make a picture available)

Thank you,
