Which compact camera would you buy, given the choice.

I am after a decent compact camera. Something pocketable.

If you could choose any one, which one would you choose?
I have been looking at the Ixus 200is/sd 980is.

Would you consider this one, or rather go for something else, and why.

Many thanks for your help.

I have the G9 and S90 from Canon. I agree the S90 is more pocketable and will give great shots.

No single one seems adequate for the range of situations I feel I might encounter, so I use two. The Canon TX1 for its small size, robustness, and versatility with 39-390 mm zoom, close macro, flip screen, and acceptable still and video; and the Panasonic LX3, for its fast, wide, F2, 24-60 mm lens, and wide range of manual settings. Together, they also provide backup in case of breakdowns.

I just bought the ZS3. They won't be for sale much longer (ZS7 is hitting stores soon).

I like it's 10x optical zoom, it's 720p video . . . but it has a smaller sensor than the S90 so image quality will suffer in lower-light situations.

Cool,

Thanks for all your comments. The S90 looks lovely, but only 3.8x zoom seems a bit light. Not too fussed about it not doing HD video.

Guess I cant have everything I am looking for in a camera, and will have to relinquish the larger zoom, for decent picture quality with the S90.

Reading the reviews of the S90, it does seem like a no brainer tho, given how highly regarded they are.

Once again, thanks for the help.
