Italy trip - camera strap, flash, filter

Going on a trip to Italy in 7 weeks, and will probably just take my D300s with the 18-200 VR II to keep equipment needs to a minimum (this is, after all, a trip with my wife and another couple on a National Geographic trip), and 3 questions: I am thinking of replacing my nikon camera strap with something different to draw less attention to the camera - any recommendations out there from seasoned travelers? Second, will I really need to take my SB 800, or most of the time can I rely on fast ISO and/or ther camera flash? Third, since this is the only lens I have that is not 77mm, am thinking about taking just one polarizing filter - good or bad idea, and which brand would you get? Thanks for any input!
