I decided to jump on a used M8 than an X1. Also got a used Nokton 40mm f1.4 along the way.

I enjoyed using the rangefinder (although I do admit that it is very frustrating at times for a beginner). Lots to learn - lens coding and getting filters and what not.

But this is way more fun than using a LCD and point and shoot on the X1.

The M8 is a good bit more adaptable and not a whole lot bigger.

I am still interested in the X1 but am going to wait till it has been out in numbers to hear more about it. It looks like it is going to just "trickle" out and few are seen in the USA. Likley 4th quarter before we have alot here.

I have done a similar thing. Just received my Digilux 2. After looking at the X1 I went back to looking at the Digilux 2. Now that, I thought, is what I want. I llike my V Lux 1 a lot, but yearned for what the Digilux appeared to deliver in the way of build quality and handling. Well it arrived today. Pristine, in original box with the lot + Leica UV filter to boot. Built like the Panasonic assemblers were working with German soldiers present, pistols cocked. Feels so good. Really like it's traditional attributes. Awsome. Now need to find time to learn and play. This will definitely get me to take a course and actually learn how to take a picture. I have joined the cult.

--Paul - I've had Digilux 2 for a couple of years, and I still carry it with me each day. I use it at work for occasional projects, for special events, and work-related parties and dinners. The lens is relatively fast and, I think, is a solid performer. There is much to like about this camera. I'm confident you'll enjoy using it.

If you don't mind my asking, where were you able to buy the Digiulx 2 (ebay?) and how much did you pay (even approximately)? I'm quite keen on one.. or am holding out for an M8 with the 35mm Voigtlander :)

Congrats, I did almost exactly the same thing, except that I had bought the M8 together with an Elmarit 28, then I went ahead and purchased a CV Nokton 40. If you get over the frame line issues with the Nokton 40, it is a great lens.

Sure. I paid $935 Australian. Approx $800 US. But got the Leica UV filter as well for that. So I say a fair price. Got it on Australian EBay. There is another going off in a few hours. Cheaper but no lense hood or original manuals, but comes with a nice bag and appears to be in excellent condition. Did put in a first bid, but have decided not to go X2 with D2. Will concentrate on a D2/V1 package at this stage.
