Best all-in-one choice

I like my Pentax K-x. I have the 18-55 and 50-200 kit lenses, but would rather have a single lens on the camera most of the time. I take pictures inside the house (candid of the dog or people, or still life), outdoor pictures, including flowers, plants, architecture, etc., some portraits, and some inside shots (being a tourist). I am simply a hobbyist, taking mostly whatever interests me, and trying out certain uses of light, perspective, and distance.

I would rather have a sharper lens than anything else, knowing that I could have a few primes or much more expensive lenses but not being willing to go that route. I have a few basic lenses in mind from which to choose:

  • Pentax 17-70 f4

  • Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5

  • Tamron 24-135 f3.5-5.6

  • Tamron 18-200 or 18-250 f3.5-6.3.

Having never seen nor used any of these lenses, I am relying on what I read about them on the websites. The two 17-70 lenses seem very popular and high quality, and the Tamron 18-250 is generally considered sharper than the 18-200. The focal lengths of the Tamron 24-135 seem very good, though, especially in looking at my focal length usage over the last several years which seems to concentrate on 35-120mm (35mm equivalent) and then above 400mm.

Any suggestions?
