I just took more pictures with the P850, I adjusted the ISO to 200, macro mode, WB is now incandescent etc. Much better pictures than the first set of P850 photos. I had never tried the macro mode on the P850, the scene modes, yes, but had not explored the menu enough to remember where the macro mode setting was.
No wonder I haven't veered off the easy "auto setting" much w/this camera! lol, much more tweaking to get the best out of it. Added Bonus:
Some musings: I have to admit that prior to getting the a230 a few months ago, the manual setting options available on my P850 just didn't (pardon the pun) click, I just hadn't explored the possibilities, consistently. After periods of non-use, I would pick up the camera, starting from scratch again, so it was just easier to stay on the auto mode for the sure thing picture. I never for a minute thought that a DSLR could be less complicated menu wise, than my Kodak, I really didn't.
These are out of camera, non-cropped, contrast adjusted in Picasa
