Lead in Nikkor glass

My friend told me that because EU banned lens that have lead in glass. So Nikon have to redesign new lens that employ Nano coating to compensate the lost of image quality.

He is a long time nikon owner and know what he is talking about. He said: Lead make lens has sharper and crispy image, also the lens is brighter and have better color. His argument is his 105/2.8D is sharper than his 105/2.8G VR, Even the VR one has good color but just not as sharp.

Does anyone know more about this?
