Translating that into people shooting, I find 50 + DX very embarassing in perspective. both 45 and 55 in DX works better for me. (So are 24, 28 35, 85 and 105 and above). 55 in DX figuratively 'focuses'on the person and begins to ignore the background. While 50mm gives you a 50/50 split in terms of the attention it draws between the person and the background. I own many, having tried very hard to use it for many things but ending up seldom using them. Slightly longer or shorter lenses get much more usage. YMMV
