I am in the market for a small 3+mega pixel camera.
What are your thoughts on the P9 for a second take everywhere type compac camera?

I like it. With the announcement of the U20 being somewhat disappointing as far as what my own needs are, I'm looking at the P2 (only 2MP, but that's fine. I want it for the portability, low cost and the Movie EX and HQX modes).

I looked at the Sony and the Cannon Digital ELF (S) series. I liked that both offered underwater cases. But I went with Cannon because the Sony AC adapters (all of them) are huge - larger than the cameras in the P series. The Cannon external chargers are smaller than the camera.

tried one (U10) in a shop this week
found that the sub postage stamp size of the LCD viewfinder was just too tiny for me to work with (and even worse for wife who has eyesight issues)
have now reluctantly passed it by (sob ...)

I believe i've seen some cannon camera's, cheap imitation SLR cams which are sold on the market for a small price.

You realize, of course, that you'll need to hope a plane to the UK to get it, right? Or where in Europe do you think you'd find it cheapest? It's almost certainly not coming here.

With my U10 on order still and the U20 already announced.. Will see if I can cancel my U10 order. Otherwise I'll put the U10 on eBay without ever opening the box.

Yes! The U20 is announced.. now, there's reason for me to get this one. However, if the price is gonna be $270.. for about $80 more, I could get a Fuji 3800z with 6x zoom zoom.. hmm...

If I'd purchased a 707 and a week later the 717 was announced I'd have returned the 707 immediately!!!
Thanks to the family store slowness I was able to cancel my U10 order this morning. I'll order the U20 as soon as it's in their computer system.
If I couldn't have cancelled the order I'd have put it on eBay; but that's kinda a pain and I'd rather avoid it if possible.
