This is good news, maybe...

Why did the little kid shout for joy when he was stuck in a room full of horse manure?

Because with all that manure, the boy reasoned, there must be a pony in there somewhere.

The 'double-fix' is clearly a design bug. This gives Nikon a premise for yet another turn of the firmware. With another firmware turn, there's hope that the HP 'filter' will be fixed or removed. Less attractive, but better than nothing, is the option of extending shutter time beyond the threshold for DFS (but not HP 'filter'), assuming that the firmware turn makes the two features mutually exclusive.

Let's hope that the current 'double-dip' comes to Nikon's attention, and they see it for the bug/problem that it is.
