Well done. I've never tried holding a lens in reverse against a camera body before. This must be a first.
A few things, if you want to reverse the lens, get the adaptor ring.

Also, you need to stop down the lens to increase the DOF, if it doesn't have an aperture ring. Your shot looks like the lens is wide open. Do this (in future) by setting the aperture on the lens, say F11, then holding down the DOF button on your 50D while you remove the lens.
Also, try the extension tubes. They're cheap. Stop down the lens first.
