Re: New Camera choice D700??? or Canon 7D

I have shot with the Canon 85 f1.2, 50mm f1.2, and 135 f2 and although they are excellent lenses the IQ is no better than the Nikon 50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.4, and 135mm f2 (available as a DC lens which Canon does not provide). I never shot at f1.2 with the Canon lenses as I was shooting with the 1.25 crop Mark III and needed all the DOF I could get. F2.0 was as wide as I shot with these lenses on a regular basis. Sometimes I might shoot the 85mm f1.2 at f1.8.

The D700 is due for an upgrade sometime in 2010 but that might mean having actual cameras in stores ready to sell and ship sometime in October/November time frame.

For me in switching back to Nikon it was the D3 and the 2 zooms you mentioned, the 14-24 and 24-70 which are both extremely sharp and being Nikon, provide excellent autofocus accuracy and long term durability. The only primes I use on a regular basis with my Nikon cameras are the 16mm fisheye and the 85mm f1.4. 90% of the time I am shooting with a zoom from 14mm to 400mm.

With ISO 6400 cameras the need for f1.4 lenses is greatly diminished and with digital sensors fewer lens changes means less dust and debris on the sensor.
