The new EF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS II USM

Hi all

I am wondering how much this new lens will cost in the USA. Does anyone know?

I am also wondering WHY the company decided to release yet another
EF 70-200mm lens?

I think this is the 5th lens in that range now, in addition to the following:

EF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS I USM,
EF 70-200mm F2.8 L USM,
EF 70-200mm F4 L IS USM, and
EF 70-200mm F4 L USM.

For your info, I just took advantage of the Canon USA "Instant Rebate" and saved 150 US Dollars on the purchase of an EF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS I USM (version one) from B & H Photo in NYC.

I feel a little bad about that now since Canon just announced that version 2 of this same lens will be released in February 2010. That is why I am asking the 2 questions above.
Hopefully some of you "Pro" photographers will be able to answer these for me.

Personally I think that there are other existing lens models (longer zooms) that Canon should have upgraded first, but maybe the anticipated sales volumes of those longer zooms just doesn't return as much profit when compared to the popular 70-200mm range? That's just my speculation, because I thought my version one of this lens WAS already one of their 5-Star rated products.

Oh well.
Comments welcome please!
